I love this quote… Makes me smile every time I hear it. Especially because I use the metaphor of two guys in the forest who come across a bear and the first one says “Oh No! There’s a bear… we have to outrun it!” when the second one says “No mate, I just have to outrun you!”
It’s a metaphor I use for online marketing, that all you need to do is stay one step ahead of the competition, or ideally – stay out of the forest! But that is a discussion for another day, on my Internet Marketing Blog.

A less dramatic version of this is taking on stretch goals. Don’t go for a moonshot but do try and move beyond what you can currently achieve.
Many of the most successful electronics products we have developed for our manufacturing clients have been a significant stretch for them beyond what they have now. And yet once they get into the market they now have a sustainable advantage over their competition, at least in the short term.
