Be Careful With Self-Anointed Labels

We’ve all heard and/or used labels: Procrastinator, Type A Personality, Alpha/Beta Male…

But what about a Time Optimist? That’s a new one.

Please read the honest, well written article to make up your own mind if it’s self-justification or a legitimately valid “position” to consider taking.

I’ve previously blogged about Polychronic versus Monochronic people…

But here’s the thing.

Whatever you ARE or CHOOSE to be, it doesn’t matter because you will “get what you deserve” based on your behaviours – NOT your intentions.

I know this sounds harsh, but it’s what happens socially and professionally all the time. People judge and assess based on their own opinions and predispositons.

If you’re monochronic working in a monochronic environment, it’s all good. But if you’re polychronic in the same monochronic environment you won’t last long and definitely won’t get the promotion you’ve been hoping for.

To be clear, the reverse holds true if you’re monochronic working in a polychronic environment… You’ll drive everyone up the wall with your incessant promptness!

So what’s the recommendation?

First, become aware of your predisposition. And then adjust to your circumstances to optimise what you can contribute, reducing your (and others’) frustration , WITHOUT compromising your ideals or results.

Admittedly, this is easier said than done.

Good luck!
