Anthony Robbin’s 7th Step To Lasting Change…

You hear it all the time, people are ‘successful’ but unhappy…

That’s because they don’t have the 7th Step to Lasting Change – A POSITIVE ENVIRONMENT.

Without a positive environment, you are destined to be unhappy, frustrated or otherwise unfulfilled.

That was the last step that I needed about 10 years ago when I attended Anthony Robbins’ Date With Destiny event in Palm Springs California.

Little did I know WITHIN 3 YEARS I would end up living in what I consider to be one of the most beautiful ‘big cities’ of the world – Sydney, Australia.

“It all happens for a reason.”

Even so, you can create your environment – I did that moving to Australia, living in a sub-penthouse unit with a clear and unobstructed view of Sydney Harbour and playing squash competitively.

Elite athletes are a positive bunch of people who THRIVE on a challenge, progress and self/personal development.

Create your destiny by CHOOSING your environment. You don’t have to move halfway around the world to do it, but you do have to make a conscious effort to make it happen.

In a few weeks, I’ll delve into this a little more, this week’s all about squash and the distinctions of competing at the highest world-class levels –

I played my last match today – I lost, no make that I was beaten in the semi-finals of The Mens’s 45-49 Main 8 Plate in four games.

I was beaten on the day by a player who played better all-around. I gave him a run, he was gasping for air as much as I was at the end, but when all was said and done, he won, and deserved it.

This concludes my first International Squash Tournament and I have to admit it’s been a lot of fun – eye-opening and the catalyst I need to get myself to the next level.

The best thing about this week is that I played my best in every single game – I had the consistency of mind as well as the physical stamina. I don’t feel sore, tired or drained. I expected that based on my fitness regimen and preparation. More on this in a later post…

So on this note, I’d like to say thank you for all your good wishes and encouragement – it’s helped make this experience truly memorable.

Onward and upward!

P.S.

I’ve said it all week, but I want to repeat here one last time – surround yourself with the people who are going to help you achieve your dreams. Your current success or lack thereof is a direct reflection of your peer group.

I know that’s a value judgment because it’s a fact.

Winners like to be around winners.

The more winners you surround yourself with, the better your chances of success, but y’know what? Even if you don’t ‘ultimately succeed’ [There is only 1 champion], I know that you’ll have a LOT MORE FUN than the alternative.

I realised something quite profound this week: It’s not really fun playing in a competition. When you look at the competitor’s faces, they are focused, nervous and tense.

The FUN part is the RESULT that confirms that all the training and preparation worked.

That for me is the FUN PART. Learning a new shot, developing a new skill, improving a stroke, understanding my body better, educating myself about nutrition and maximising my agility, speed and quickness.

Competition is just an ‘exam’ that tells you how you stack up. NO ONE likes exams… But anyone who has mastered a skill understands they are necessary.

I look forward to tomorrow when I get back to Sydney and can start my training for next year’s competition…

NOW I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT TO WORK ON!

  • Thank you for this post, Marc. I love Tony’s teaching principles. 7th power or creating the right environment which will support our growth is crucial in our journey to become a better person, to build a better business, and to make consistent progress every single day.

Creating an office environment that will support and enhance our business growth is also important as it will support our business process.
